DIALOG V Educational Slides

DIALOG V Educational Slides:

Interdisciplinary Topics in Aquatic Science

Introduction

This on-line resource provides slides of scientific data

and information on a variety of aquatic science topics.

The slides on this site are excerpts from presentations given

by participants at the DIALOG V Symposium, held Oct. 19-25, 2003.

DIALOG symposia are designed to bring together recent doctoral

recipients from a broad cross section of aquatic science disciplines,

to foster interdisciplinary understanding and collaborations. Each

participant made a 10-minute overview of his or her Ph.D. dissertation

research. Speakers were instructed to avoid jargon and make their

presentations understandable to scientists who would be unfamiliar

with their area of expertise. Talks were uniformly excellent and

so many participants expressed interest in having some of the slides

for teaching purposes that the authors of this paper decided to compile

them into an educational resource so that others could use them for

teaching purposes. This website is the result of that effort.

Visit http://aslo.org/phd.html for program information and application instructions for future DIALOG symposia.

The list of topics appears on the left.

Each topic contains 1-4 slides along with a description

of the important points.

Links on the slides take you to the actual PowerPoint files that can be used for teaching purposes.

Within each subject page you can obtain the file by clicking on the picture to enlarge.

Right click on the enlarged picture and select ?copy slide? from the menu.

It can then be pasted into your document or PowerPoint presentation. Also there is a link beside each slide which

Gives you the option of downloading the file in PowerPoint format. The files are self-extracting zip files. You do not need a zip program

in order to open them. When you click on the link you will be prompted to save the file. Save the file to a location of your choosing.

Once you have the file saved, double click and specify where you would like the PowerPoint presentation saved.

These files range in size up to 5 mb. Please be patient when downloading, especially if you are using a standard dial-up connection.

If your computer does not have PowerPoint you can download a free PowerPoint Viewer from

Microsoft's web page (http://www.microsoft.com/)

For some topics, additional references are provided.
